The Grade 1/2 classroom focus is on becoming more independent with our learning and always striving to do our best. Students begin by having independent and group goals to challenge and extend themselves. We use learning intentions and success criterias so they know their focus and we begin implementing open ended tasks. We have a daily Literacy and Numeracy block. Our Literacy incorporates our whole school SMART Spelling Approach, aspects of the Reader's Workshop Model that promotes student choice, writing centres and language experiences. In Numeracy there is a strong focus on using manipulatives, open ended tasks, fluency tasks and connections to real life experiences.
